Internet, Blogging and Piclog on old era is quitely nice

This is a piece I wrote in 2026 about an internet trend from the past, specifically from 2013 or 2014. I first got into this trend through a Japanese blogging service called Simplog.

Simplog is a Japanese microblogging service launched by Ameba, you can post photos, share blog especially from your favorite artists, repost their blog content, and much more.

I used to make short posts on that platform under the username GingaLiba, or at least, that’s what I recall the username being. I posted about my activities there during the time I was in junior high and the first year of senior high. I first discovered the platform through one of my favorite artists, Fumika. It turned out that Fumika-san also used it to post about her activities, which were linked to Ameblo.jp.

2015 marked the era of Piclog's downfall

I consider 2015 to be the end of the "piclog" era, everyone shifted their focus to standard blogging, and the format ultimately lost out to platforms like Blogger and WordPress due to the competition. I had moved on from it myself by then. I had originally discovered Blogger through the fansub community, the people who provided Indonesian subtitles.

2018 is the end of a simplog service

2018 marked the end of the road for one of my favorite services. Ameba announced the discontinuation of Simplog, though some of your archive posts remain accessible on your own blog at ameblo.jp, you can read the announcement here.

Why could the internet era of that time be considered good?

Back to the blog title, and the reason I consider this a great or cool era, is that people back then were incredibly active in creating content. They wrote about a wide range of topics, from adventures, commentary on favorite musician or artist, automotive interests, and personal activities or just posts sharing download links. However, in my opinion, the standout themes of this era were discussions about favorite artist or musicians and adventures.
